I don’t know if they were culturally significant, but they were very popular. My mother and my father were America’s sweethearts. They literally received that tag. Even my parents sort of went along with the assumption that they were a good couple, but they probably weren’t a very good couple. Anyway, my father was best friends with a man named Michael Todd. Mike Todd was married to Elizabeth Taylor. Mike Todd died in a plane crash, and my father consoled Elizabeth Taylor with his penis.
Carrie holds such a special place in the hearts of everyone at Lucasfilm it is difficult to think of a world without her. She was Princess Leia to the world but a very special friend to all of us. She had an indomitable spirit, incredible wit, and a loving heart. Carrie also defined the female hero of our age over a generation ago. Her groundbreaking role as Princess Leia served as an inspiration of power and confidence for young girls everywhere. We will miss her dearly.
I have always stood in awe of Carrie. Her observations always made me laugh and gasp at the same time. She didn’t need The Force. She was a force of nature, of loyalty and of friendship. I will miss her very much.
Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York, the fourth of five children of Frederick C. and Mary MacLeod Trump. Frederick Trump was a builder and real estate developer who came to specialize in constructing and operating middle-income apartments in Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn. Donald was an energetic, assertive child, and his parents sent him to the New York Military Academy at age 13, hoping the discipline of the school would channel his energy in a positive manner.
Trump did well at the academy, both socially and academically, rising to become a star athlete and student leader by the time he graduated in 1964. He then entered Fordham University and two years later transferred to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 1968 with a degree in economics.
He got his start when he turned a big profit on a Cincinnati apartment complex his father assigned him after his Wharton graduation in 1968. He then made use of tax credits the New York City government was doling out in the 1970s to build his portfolio of Manhattan real estate.
My legacy has its roots in my father’s legacy.”
Frederick Christ Trump was born on October 11, 1905, in New York, the son of Fredrick Trump and Elizabeth Christ Trump. Donald Trump’s grandfather was born in Germany and immigrated to North America in 1885 at the age of 16. He moved to Seattle during the Gold Rush, where he ran restaurants before moving to Canada, where he opened a hotel and restaurant, according to a CBC article.
The restaurant offered more than food, Gwenda Blair, who authored a book about the Trump family, told the CBC. “The bulk of the cash flow came from the sale of liquor and sex.”
Donald Trump’s grandfather died in 1918 when Frede Trump was a teenager. In 1927, Fred Trump, Trump’s father, started Elizabeth Trump & Son Co., the real estate company that would become The Trump Organization, according to his New York Times obituary. He began building houses in Queens, New York, and then constructed barracks and apartments for U.S. Navy personnel along the East Coast during World War II.
He continued to build the company, constructing low-income apartments and row houses in Brooklyn and Queens. Donald Trump joined the company in 1968, when he was 22. Fred Trump lent his son money and allowed him to go into the real estate business in Manhattan, according to the Times.
“It was good for me,” Donald Trump told the Times. “You know, being the son of somebody, it could have been competition to me. This way, I got Manhattan all to myself!”
Things You Should Know About Donald Trump
Trump’s third wife, born Melanija Knauss, is a Slovenian model and mother of his youngest son, Barron. She met Trump in 1998 at the Kit Kat Club in New York, but they broke up when Trump briefly considered running for president in 2000. The pair got back together, and he proposed at the Met’s Costume Institute Gala in 2004. According to a New Yorker profile of Melania, she didn’t ask Trump to learn any Slovenian. She has a jewelry line and a skincare line, and has kept a relatively low profile during the campaign so far. “I give him my opinions, and sometimes he takes them in, and sometimes he does not. Do I agree with him all the time? No. I think it is good for a healthy relationship. I am not a ‘yes’ person,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I don’t want to change him. And he doesn’t want to change me.”
Donald Trump Jr.
Donald Trump’s oldest son with first wife Ivana Trump is a businessman and an executive vice president at the Trump Organization (along with his brother Eric and sister Ivanka), which means he helps run the Trump Organization while his dad is running for President. Trump Jr. says he and his siblings avoided becoming fodder for gossip blogs by devoting lots of time to working for their father’s business. Trump Jr. says he started by working on the docks in Atlantic City, telling Forbes: “I’m pretty certain that I’m the only son of a billionaire who can drive a D10 Caterpillar better than I can drive a golf cart.” He and his wife Vanessa have five children.
Donald’s poised and accomplished daughter with Ivana Trump has frequently accompanied him on the campaign trail or acted as a surrogate for her father. She is a former model who now serves as executive vice president of development and acquisitions at the Trump Organization and runs her own successful lifestyle brand that sells shoes, handbags and fragrance, as well as the Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry Collection. On top of all that, she recently gave birth to her third child, Theo, with husband Jared Kushner. Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism in 2009 when she married Kushner, and she says she regularly cooks Shabbat dinner for their family.
Ivanka Trump’s husband is a real estate mogul in his own right. The CEO of New Jersey real estate empire Kushner Companies and publisher of the New York Observer is also the son of Charles Kushner, a real estate developer who spent time in prison for hiring a prostitute to entrap his brother-in-law, who was cooperating with federal authorities in an investigation against him. Jared Kushner grew up in an Orthodox family in Northern New Jersey before getting his undergraduate degree at Harvard and a joint business and law degree at NYU.
Donald Trump’s third child with Ivana is also, like his siblings, an executive vice president at the Trump Organization, and owns Trump Winery. He has a degree from Georgetown and married CBS producer Lara Yunasaka in 2014. This year, the youngest son from Trump’s first marriage attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Donald Trump’s only child with second wife Marla Maples is 22 and about to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. She mostly grew up with her mother in California, and saw her father only a few times a year—Maples has said she raised Tiffany mostly as a single mom. “Her daddy is a good provider with education and such, but as far as time, it was just me,” Maples told People magazine. Tiffany was reportedly named after the store Tiffany’s, and she’s been called one of the “Rich Kids of Instagram.”
Donald Trump’s youngest son with Melania is 10 years old and lives in the family penthouse with his mother in New York. Between his mom, a model, and his sister Ivanka, a fashion designer, Barron is fashion-forward for an elementary school kid: Melania has said that he’s “not a sweatpants kid,” but likes “to dress up in a tie sometimes like Daddy.” He’s frequently absent from the campaign trail, since he’s busy with his homework for his private school in New York City.
Donald Trump’s older sister Maryanne seems to have distanced herself as far as she could from the glitzy Trump empire: She was a federal judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, more likely to be seen in judicial robes than fancy gowns. Appointed a federal judge by Ronald Reagan in 1983, she was put on the Court of Appeals by Bill Clinton in 1999. In 2006, she testified in support of Justice Samuel Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Ted Cruz once called her a “radial pro-abortion extremist” because she struck down a New Jersey partial-birth abortion ban she deemed too broad. Trump reportedly used his connections to lobby for her to get appointed to the bench.
“They both teach a twisted form of Christianity that teaches obedience, giving, and faith as a way to get things from God. They are both products of what is known as the Prosperity Gospel and The Word of Faith Movement, or the Seed Faith Movement.”
— Rick Henderson
Joel reluctantly stepped into the role of Lakewood Church pastor. His stated preference was for the behind-the-scenes media work.
Reluctant or not, pastor televangelist is the role Joel Osteen was born to fill. Since becoming the head of Houston’s Lakewood Church, Osteen has grown the church’s membership to more than 40,000. Since becoming the head of Houston’s Lakewood Church, Osteen has grown the church’s membership to more than 40,000. The already very large Lakewood Church has grown to over 40,000 members.
And a new church building, an NBA former basketball arena. Once home to the Houston Rockets it is now home to Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church.
The growth of the church led to the growth of Joel Osteen’s wealth — in the $50 million-plus range. But Joel is not ashamed of his wealth.
Joel is married to the former Victoria Iloff who hales from Huntsville, Alabama. And yes, her father worked in the aerospace program there. When Victoria was two years old her father took a job with NASA and the family moved to Houston.
Victoria briefly attended the University of Houston but dropped out of college to work in her mother’s jewelry business. It was at the jewelry store that she met a customer who stopped in for a watch battery — Joel Osteen.
The couple married April 4, 1957. They have two children: Johnathan and Alexandra.
Joel’s preaching has made him beloved by millions. Still, critics criticize what they term Christianity Lite.
“I think it’s a cotton candy gospel,” the Rev. Michael Horton, professor of theology at Westminster Seminary in Escondido, California said.
“His core message is God is nice, you’re nice, be nice. It’s sort of a, if it were a form of music, I think it would be easy listening.
He uses the Bible like a fortune cookie. ‘This is what’s gonna happen for you. There’s gonna be a windfall in your life tomorrow.’ The Bible’s not meant to be read that way.”
Morgan Freeman, currently fascinating viewer with his “The Story Of God” is not a religious man. But of all the religious people with whom Freeman interacted in the making of the series, it was Joel Osteen who made the biggest impression on him.
“In a Houston megachurch (Lakewood Church) I connected somewhat. Encouraged to think positive. You don’t just get some things just like that! You have to go do it to get it. God’s plan for us is to succeed. – Morgan Freeman
Christians talk of heart, Hindus enlightenment, Islamists paradise. Me, I’m a privatist. All of life is this planet. Life ever after is here. I don’t think life exists on any other planet. If, like me, you think that it’s just us, you must make a move not to kill it. Ours is a planetary problem. Trees, animals, climate, we have to stop killing it.”
